Book two took the world of Nyxia to a whole other level.
I remember reading Nyxia by Scott Reintgen last year and just devouring it within a day! It was that good! You can read my review of book one here: Book Review: Nyxia by Scott Reintgen (Spoiler Free)
Nyxia Unleashed is book one times three! The action is crazier and the characters are beautifully written and even though it took me a bit to read it due to my small slump, I absolutely loved it! The synopsis for book 2 of the Nyxia Triad is as followed:
FROM GOODREADS: Emmett Atwater thought Babel’s game sounded easy. Get points. Get paid. Go home. But it didn’t take long for him to learn that Babel’s competition was full of broken promises, none darker or more damaging than the last one.
Now Emmett and the rest of the Genesis survivors must rally and forge their own path through a new world. Their mission from Babel is simple: extract nyxia, the most valuable material in the universe, and play nice with the indigenous Adamite population.
But Emmett and the others quickly realize they are caught between two powerful forces—Babel and the Adamites—with clashing desires. Will the Genesis team make it out alive before it’s too late?
I have said it time and time again that I find Sci-Fi novels to difficult to get into. Films such as Star Wars and Ender’s Game I thoroughly enjoy, but books are tricky. Reintgen hits the nail on the genre and really delves into the Science Fiction world. Not only does he pull classic themes, but also adds his own flair that I couldn’t help but fall in love with.
Emmett Atwater was already an amazing character, but in book 2 he really goes that extra mile and I found him that much more interesting to read. I wouldn’t say I relate to him, but I find his compassionate side and his driven attitude very compelling. And just like with Emmett, Reintgen builds up more and more of the other characters from Anton to Katsu. Each and every one of them created a family within the story that I cannot wait to read more of.
There was a perfect amount of downtime and suspense throughout the book. I never felt as if it were dragging or was overwhelmed with filler chapters. It was fast paced and each chapter brought something new and exciting whether it was through character development or Sci-Fi elements.
The villains of the story were the perfect mix of infuriating and impressive. I love when authors write smart and cunning bad guys. Being able to understand why someone is doing something instead of just seeing it happen is always better. I still have a lot of questions about Babel, but I think they may be answered in book 3.
My favourite part about this book was the number of times I felt the need to place the book down and just applaud. Especially the end. Some of these characters, guys…they really steal the show. Reintgen absolutely knows how to write teenagers and I was happy to see that. Sometimes I think authors forget that teens are just slightly taller kids and they need fun even in stressful times. I liked the balance between light and dark and that the characters had room to grow and explore themselves along with the planet.
This review is very difficult to write without spoilers! I just have so many emotions and feeling and I need to discuss them! That is why you all need to go out and get this books so I can VENT.
I will tell you this: I HAVE A LOT OF THEORIES AND A LOT OF QUESTIONS.
I mean, I had a lot after book one and yes two answered them, but then there are more… I need book three…yesterday.
And if you enjoyed the whole concept of the nyxia, the mineral they can manipulate, there is a bit more for you in book 2. The way it can be manipulated is expanded on and there is so much more to the substance than we originally thought. Also, if you thought Babel was sketchy in book one, book two may drive you insane.
I think the only thing I missed while reading book 2 was the competition. That was my favourite thing about Nyxia and I wish something like that would have been present. However, sequels can be difficult, but this was exactly how I wanted it to go with a few surprises here and there that were much appreciated. I cannot wait to see what Nyxia Uprising has in store.
Overall, I give this book 5/5 stars and I encourage you to check it out. Whether you like Sci-Fi or not, I think those who enjoy a plethora of fun characters and interesting worlds will end up really loving this as well as the first book in the trilogy!
Have you read Nyxia? Do you plan on reading book 2? Let me know!
